Jian's father was in Japan on assignment with his company when he met Jian's mother. Before long the two had a growing family, Jian being the third child out of four. Though the family was big, they were all cared for very well and given everything they could ever want or need. Jian in particular was supplied with all the technological things that interested him, so even as a young child he knew quite a bit about technology. The downfall to being a tech-wizard as a child was that Jian often didn't spend much time with his brother and sisters. Of course he loved his family unconditionally as a child, but often he was busy with his computer while his older siblings were being together. Things changed once his younger sister was born though, as a child of only eight Jian found himself caring for his one year old sister, Xiaochung. The time spent with his younger sister began to steer Jianliang away from his entirely technology based childhood and into a more care-taker one. Even though he was still just a child he found he liked being protective of his sister and making sure she was happy and taken care of. Jian still indulged in games too much, mostly because his digimon and him both loved doing those things together, but his family life began to grow richer as he hit his tenth year. Other things began to change that year as well, because that was the time that Jian met his first close friend. The boy said his name was Takato and they went to the same schools for quite some time. Terriermon also made really good friends with Takato's Guilmon. Everything seemed to be absolutely perfect with Jian's life. But trouble was brewing just beneath the surface. Jian's father Jiangyu was experiencing some changes in his work and was suddenly being called back to China. Though his mother Mayumi showed resistance to the idea she eventually came to the conclusion that it would be best not to tear up the family. Jian and his siblings were then told that within a year they would all be moving to China. Jian, heart-broken, told his friend Takato the news and said that they had to stay in touch. If nothing else they could always email each other. The move happened quietly and without too much protest. The whole family had resigned themselves to their fate and seemed intent of making the best of their new life. Jian busied himself with the well-being of his sister and tried not to think of the friends he was leaving behind. Terriermon, though a bit more outspoken about his displeasure, followed in the sentiment, though the digimon focused his efforts on Lopmon. Once in their new home it took everyone quite some time to get comfortable, especially with the discomfort of Jiangyu's job settling in overhead. At the age of fourteen, Jian began to realize that something was seriously wrong with his father's career. The man always came home ragged and got calls at odd hours of the day and night, which Jian knew wasn't how other jobs worked. When the boy got enough courage to confront his father about it he was quickly shot down with a "This isn't something children need to know about." Meanwhile, on top of the troubles with his father, it appeared that all communication with Takato mysteriously stopped. Concern coming to full throttle, Jian was having a hard time operating in his family. The young man made a deal with his mother that if he saved the money for the trip he could go back to Japan to see what was happening with his friend and why he hadn't heard from him in so long. It took him until he was sixteen, but Jian did raise the money and his mother consented to his trip. Unsure of what he would find there, Jian prepared to go back to the place he was born.
